2010 Anusara Yoga Teacher Training Cycle
  Anusara Yoga Teacher Training Cycle
In the Teacher Training Cycle you will experience the elegant simplicity of teaching the Anusara method. You will begin your Teacher Training with the study of Anusara based Anatomy and Therapeutics with one of Anusara’s top anatomy specialists, Ellen Saltonstall, and explore the depths of yoga philosophy with Harshada Wagner. Then in the Art of Teaching, Bo Srey will bring you on a journey to your own inner teacher and help you teach this simple yet profound method from the Heart. Jim Bernaert joins this training as a special guest, lending his over 20 years of yoga teaching and life wisdom to helping you refine your art in Jim’s direct but profound style.

Part 1, the Practical Anatomy and Philosophy Intensive is open to all sincere students of yoga and will give those poised to apply for the Art of Teaching a more specialized knowledge of philosophy, anatomy and therapeutics to really soar. You may participate in the Practical Anatomy and Philosophy Intensive even if you only wish to deepen your yoga understanding and sadhana (spiritual practice).   You may participate in the Practical Anatomy and Philosophy Intensive even if you only wish to deepen your yoga understanding and sadhana (spiritual practice)

After completing this intensive, those wishing to continue can apply for the Art of Teaching. Requirements for the Art of Teaching Modules are at least 100 hours of Immersion studies with a Certified Anusara Teacher, or equivalent. Anusara may also require a new entrance exam. Details are forthcoming.

Since the Universal Principles of Alignment work in every pose, there are no new methodologies for different poses. Rather than giving separate sets of instructions, we apply principles, with heart-oriented instructions, to the various classes of yoga asana. This way, we can focus more on stepping into the seat of the teacher and the art of teaching rather than looking at every pose separately.

In this 105 hour teacher training, divided into three parts, you will:
Learn how to tap into your authentic voice—the voice of your inner teacher
Take the seat of the Teacher with honor, confidence and an attitude of loving service
Deepen your knowledge of the Universal Principles of Alignment

About the Trainers
Bo Srey
Bo Srey is a Certified Anusara™ yoga teacher (www.spandananda.com). Born in New York City to Cambodian parents, he moved to Singapore in 2005. Having practiced yoga and meditation since 1996, Bo brings a joyful and caring spirit to the yoga practice.   Bo Srey

As an undergraduate at the University of Rochester, Bo studied with renowned Indian philosophy scholar, Douglas Brooks. Bo began the practice of hatha yoga because of a life-long study of martial arts and a deep interest in the mystical tradition of the East. His first hatha yoga teacher was Rudrani Farbman. Her wisdom permeated every word she spoke. Bo is truly indebted to her for helping him experience hatha yoga from the inside out.

While teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area, Bo also studied with Tony Briggs, a senior Iyengar Yoga teacher with whom he completed a 1-year Teacher Training apprenticeship. During that time, he deepened his studies with his main teacher, Anusara Founder, John Friend. Bo has studied hundreds of hours with John Friend throughout the United States, Europe, China, Japan and Taiwan. These studies include two level-1 Teacher Trainings, a level-2 Teacher Training, Master Immersion, therapy trainings and countless weekend workshops on yoga and philosophy. In 2008, Bo followed John Friend on his Light The Sky tour.   Read Articles by Bo Strey

Anusara yoga is a style of hatha yoga that reminds students of their true essence, heals the body with powerful and sound biomechanical principles and unifies outer strength with inner joy. Bo's classes reflect the eternal dance of opposite forces: shiva-shakti, yin-yang, concealment-revelation. His classes are challenging, yet fun and light. While teaching precise principles of alignment, Bo constantly encourages students to access their wisdom center, letting the practice reveal each student's joyful nature.

He has taught in major studios in San Francisco, Singapore and Thailand. In addition to public classes, Bo has taught Immersions and Teacher Trainings in Asia and the United States. He has also taught hatha yoga in many global teaching events with senior monks of his meditation tradition. As a disciple of a sadguru or true guru, Bo sincerely seeks to align with the energy of his teacher and her lineage in his teaching.

Bo and his wife Shirley, an Anusara-Inspired yoga teacher, currently live in Singapore. They teach workshops, retreats and teacher trainings throughout the world.

Ellen Saltonstall
Ellen Saltonstall began her practice of meditation in 1974, and her practice of Hatha Yoga in 1981. After a decade of study in the Iyengar Yoga method, she met John Friend, who trained and certified her to teach Anusara™ yoga.   Ellen Saltonstall

Ellen's early professional study and work in massage and dance set the groundwork for her ongoing passion for anatomy and the therapeutic applications of yoga. She has extensive experience working with issues such as arthritis, menopause, fertility, musculoskeletal pain, and repetitive strain injuries.

Ellen is a senior teacher of Kinetic Awareness, a body therapy using rubber balls developed by Elaine Summers. In 1983 Ellen wrote and published the first book on the method, Kinetic Awareness; Discovering Your Bodymind. She continues to use this method in her therapeutic classes, and to train teachers to use this work with clients. She teaches classes and privates in her studio in NYC, as well as teacher trainings and workshops in locally and internationally.

Ellen recently co-authored, with Dr. Loren Fishman, two books on yoga which to be published by WW Norton: Yoga for Arthritis (March 2008) and Yoga for Osteoporosis (March 2010). She is currently working on an anatomy book for Anusara Yoga practitioners. She is the mother of three children.
