Yin Yoga – Insight to developing flexibility by Victor Chng
2 Feb 2007
Tel : 6738 2028
In this workshop you will be taught to perform yoga asanas in the Yin Way. The practice requires one to stay in the postures for longer amount of time. Yet the intensity of the practice is still tremendous as the posture works beyond the surface of the muscles but at the level of the deep connective tissues, which joins bone-to-bone. The greatest benefit of this way of engaging the body is a more lasting opening and flexibility of the body. Yin Yoga emphasizes on the lower body which include: Lower back, Hips, Legs and Feet. Due to the nature of this practice, it serves well for people who would like to work deeper on hip-opening, surrounding the hip socket, pelvis and sacral-lumber region. Yin Yoga is also a very good preparation for meditation, as it ensures that one will be able to seat more comfortable in a meditative posture longer. Therefore, there will also be pranayama and meditation in the second half of the workshop.

Yin Yoga is the relaxed practice of floor postures for three to five minutes at a time. It is the ideal complement to more muscular or “Yang” forms of Yoga. A Yin practice emphasizes the connective tissues of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine. In this way it prepares the body and the mind for longer meditation practices. By drawing the student’s awareness away from the muscles and deeper into the bones a deep level of relaxed focus is achieved.
